A photo of a high-poly elf in light blue armor hit r/classicwow with a spoiler warning, and Classic players immediately tied it to BlizzCon. Almost every player that looks at the post sees the Skyborne High Elf and treats it as the latest piece of the Classic+ rumor pile, not an official Blizzard announcement.
The image looks like it was a shot off a monitor. People in the thread pointed at the corporate bezel, the hair clipping through a cape, and an asymmetrical tabard. Some called it AI. Some said the armor was too consistent for a sloppy fake. The file naming people keep attaching to it is "Warcraft New Horizons," plus labels that read like production notes. Skyborne, or Skyborn, is not a brand-new word in the datamine community. Earlier this year miners pulled a Skyborne banner, a Skyborne windwell, blades, housing decor, and a bow text that mentions high elves out of Midnight-era files. Doronsmovies covered those as a possible playable race path as far back as May, with a nature-leaning high elf look rather than a straight Silvermoon reskin. MMO-Champion posters later connected Quel’Danil Lodge work in the Hinterlands to the same tag set. Retail players have been arguing for months that this is a Midnight or 12.1 Allied Race, not a Classic+ project.
The Classic+ reasoning made more sense when dataminer Stiven found Heroic and Epic licenses for something called World of Warcraft Camelot on Blizzard servers in June. An older August 2025 document leak, the so-called Slate leak from deleted Reddit user 5thyatch, had already listed Camelot next to Classic on a timeline into late 2026. Wowhead and GameSpot both treated the Camelot licenses as the piece that made that older sheet harder to laugh off. Blizzard has still not said Classic+ is real. It has teased a major Classic-related reveal for BlizzCon 2026, which runs in less than two weeks on September 12 and 13.
Most players read of the new elf photo is that the race fits the lore of the Warcraft 3 high elves who stayed with the Alliance instead of becoming Blood Elves: blue eyes, Silvermoon roots, Vereesa’s side of the story rather than Kael’thas. In that version they could be Alliance in retail and something closer to a neutral or Classic+ add-on later. Other commenters said the opposite. The textures look like retail. The model looks like retail. If Classic+ is a vanilla-style client, this screenshot does not match 2004 art. The counter-rumor is that Camelot uses the modern engine with a classic toggle, the way remasters keep two visual modes. That is also unconfirmed.
High elves for the Alliance in Classic+ is the wish list item that never dies. Void Elves exist in retail and do not scratch that itch for a lot of people. A Skyborne clan based around Aerie Peak and the Wildhammer, which showed up in older anonymous Classic+ feature lists, would be the fan-fiction version of the same request. Those lists also threw in dwarf shaman, gnome priest, and time-traveling elves. Treat them as forum paste, not patch notes.
So far what we have seen of the supposed leaks are: a Reddit photo, Midnight files with Skyborne in the name, Camelot product licenses, a BlizzCon Classic tease, and a community that has wanted playable high elves since 2004. The photo may be retail transmog, a housing bundle, an Allied Race, Classic+ concept art, or junk. Some players are betting it is close enough to the Slate-era Camelot leak to talk about with 12 days left. As always with leaks, take the rumors with a grain of salt until confirmed.
BlizzCon is where this either gets a name or gets ignored. If Camelot is the Classic+ pitch, a new elf is the kind of slide that would make the hall pop. If the Skyborne kit is just Midnight decor, the Reddit thread becomes another two-week argument and nothing else.
