Blizzard's new Rexxar bundle for World of Warcraft did not last long. The Champion of the Wilds Pack showed up on the Battle.net Shop this week and was taken down almost right away, and the product pages no longer work. There is still no return date.
The clearest official explanation so far comes from NetEase, which runs World of Warcraft in China. In a notice posted on Friday (October 16th), the China WoW team said the Rexxar packs that were scheduled to launch globally that day were being held back due to technical reasons. It told players to watch for official news on the final release date. That covers both the retail pack and a separate Classic version.
What Was In The Champion Of The Wilds Pack
The bundle is built around Rexxar, the half-orc beastmaster who has been one of Warcraft's most recognizable Hunters since Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. According to NetEase's original announcement from Tuesday (October 13th), the retail pack includes:
- Rexxar's Fabled Attire, a full transmog ensemble.
- Rexxar's Companion Transformation, a toy that lets Hunters turn their pet into Misha or Huffer.
- Zhevraskin Rug, a decor item for player housing.
The toy is the part a lot of Hunters were most excited about. Misha, Rexxar's bear, has been at his side since Warcraft III, and Huffer is the boar from his Animal Companion card in Hearthstone. Being able to turn your own pet into one of them is a neat bit of fan service for anyone who mains the class.
There is also a Classic version, listed in China as the Call of the Beast Master pack. It has the same ensemble and pet toy, but swaps the rug for a companion pet named Shadow, and it works on the Classic progression servers and the Titan Reforged servers. NetEase had already said on October 13th that this version would be delayed for technical reasons, before the retail pack was pulled as well. In China, each pack was priced at 218 yuan.
What Went Wrong
Blizzard has not said exactly what the technical issue is. Players on the official World of Warcraft forums were quick to notice the pack had vanished, with one asking why it was listed but not actually available to buy. Others in those threads said the ensemble looked badly bugged, and that the takedown is most likely temporary.
One player in the forums asked Blizzard to either make the pack permanent or say something official about a return date. As of this writing, Blizzard has not posted about the removal on its English channels.
Pulling a shop item this quickly is not common, but it is the better outcome if the set really was broken. A paid cosmetic that looks wrong on your character is the kind of thing players remember. Holding it back until it works is the safer call, even if it means fans who wanted it this week have to wait.
When Will It Come Back?
The pack was listed as a limited time item, so the big question is whether Blizzard gives it a fresh window once it is fixed. The NetEase notice says only that the final release time will be shared through official channels, and there is no hint yet on whether that is days or weeks away.
For anyone who missed it, there should be another chance. NetEase describes this as a delay, so the pack is expected to come back once the issues are sorted out. Hunters who have been waiting years for a proper Rexxar set will just have to hold on a little longer.
Are you planning to grab the Rexxar pack when it returns, or is the Misha and Huffer toy not enough to get you to pay for it?
