PlayStation will be hosting a "State of Play" broadcast next month, promising fans a new look at Insomniac Games' upcoming third-person action-adventure game Marvel's Wolverine.
The State of Play will feature more than 60 minutes of "updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from top studios around the world," but Marvel's Wolverine appears to be the big focus. According to the PlayStation Blog post:
To kick things off, you’ll get a closer look at Marvel’s Wolverine. Insomniac Games will share more from its upcoming third-person action-adventure game showing off Logan’s brutal and relentless combat along with some new details.
Marvel's Wolverine is scheduled to release exclusively for PlayStation 5 on September 15, and figures to be one of the platform's biggest exclusives of the year.
Developed by Insomniac Games, the acclaimed studio behind the Marvel's Spider-Man franchise, the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine follows Logan as he embarks on a brutal and deeply personal journey to uncover the truth about his past.
"As he searches for answers about his past, Wolverine will do whatever it takes – unleashing brutal claw combat, violent rage and relentless determination – to cut through the mystery of the man he used to be," the description teases.
Insomniac Games has slowly been pulling back the curtain on Marvel's Wolverine, sharing a full-fledged gameplay trailer (above) along with a behind-the-scenes look at the game's development. The game is shaping up to be everything Wolverine fans could want, built around fast and ferocious combat, explosive set pieces, and a story that really digs into what makes Logan such a compelling character. And don't expect the usual Insomniac playfulness here since this one leans into a much darker, more brutal take on the iconic mutant.
The story follows Wolverine as he hunts down the secrets of a shadowy past, taking him across some seriously cool locations like the island nation of Madripoor, the frozen Canadian wilderness, and the streets of Tokyo. Along the way he'll run into some familiar faces, including Mystique and Omega Red, plus a nasty enemy faction called the Reavers who will definitely keep him on his toes. It sounds like a globe-trotting thriller with plenty of bloody, bone-clawing action to go around.
Marvel's Wolverine will be released on September 15, exclusively for PS5. As previously reported, it will only be available on PlayStation 5, as Sony is no longer bringing its exclusives to PC.
PlayStation's State of Play broadcast will begin on Tuesday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. PT / 5:00 p.m. ET. You'll be able to watch it on YouTube and Twitch.
