From Marvel's Wolverine to Grand Theft Auto 6, there are plenty of heavy-hitting blockbusters coming to PS5 in 2026. But many of these games aren't due out until later in the year.
January is typically a slow time for the gaming industry in terms of new releases, especially following the huge holiday push. But as we prepare to enter the New Year, there are a few games coming to PS5 in January that have us excited.
Just quickly looking over the calendar, we've got Code Vein II, The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon, and The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin among the games releasing next month. Before we get into the details of our most anticipated games, here is the list of new games set to launch on PS5 in January 2026:
- I Am Future - January 8
- Code Violet - January 10
- Cassette Boy - January 15
- The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon - January 15
- BrokenLore: Unfollow - January 16
- Mio: Memories in Orbit - January 20
- SEGA Football Club Champions 2026 - January 22
- Escape from Ever After - January 23
- Highguard - January 26
- The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin - January 28
- Cairn - January 29
- Dark Auction - January 29
- Code Vein II - January 30
- Front Mission 3 Remake - January 30
Releasing at the end of the month, Code Vein II is a sequel to Bandai Namco's post-apocalyptic anime-styled action RPG. Code Vein II makes several improvements over its predecessor, including an expanded combat system that enhances the original's blood-draining mechanic with a new build system that lets you freely customize weapons and skills to fit your playstyle.
If you're looking for something free to play, you may want to check out Highguard, the fantasy shooter from Wildlight Entertainment, an independent studio founded by veteran developers from Apex Legends and Titanfall. A surprise announcement to close out The Game Awards, Highguard is a PvP raid shooter "where players will ride, fight, and raid as Wardens, arcane gunslingers sent to fight for control of a mythical continent."
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon may not be a game you're familiar with. Developed by Nihon Falcom, Trails Beyond the Horizon was initially released in Japan for PS4 and PS5 in 2024. Now it's making its North American debut thanks to NIS America. The 13th installment in the Trails series, Trails Beyond the Horizon is an RPG where you'll "explore the vast Calvard Republic with three different protagonists, nurture connections, and master powerful skills in both real-time and turn-based battles as you uncover the secrets at the core of Zemuria!"
For the anime fans out there, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is an open-world RPG set in the universe of the hit anime series. An original story, players step into the role of Prince Tristan of Liones and explore Britannia, embarking on a journey "to restore order to a world thrown into chaos by the collision of time and space."
All in all, it's not a bad month for gamers, especially considering the time of year. We're used to January being a rather dull month for new game releases, but there are at least a handful worth getting excited about. Which PS5 games are you looking forward to playing?
