THE LAST OF US PART II Director Neil Druckmann Reveals How Long He Had The Basic Story For The Sequel
Naughty Dog has been developing The Last of Us Part II since it was announced in 2016, but now director Neil Druckmann has revealed when he first had the basic story for the sequel. More past the jump...
The first The Last of Us was released in 2013 to rave reviews from fans and critics alike, but its sequel still wasn't announced until 2016. So when exactly did the developers come up with the story for The Last of Us Part II. Well, according to director Neil Druckmann, he's had a basic idea of the story for quite a while.
During a recent interview with the official PlayStation Blog, Druckmann revealed that he's had a generally idea of where the sequel would go since 2013, when he first pitched the Left Behind DLC to Ellie actress Ashley Johnson.
"I met with Ashley Johnson and I pitched her the idea for Left Behind. And I told her I had something else I was working on and I pitched her that idea. So she’s there in the restaurant crying, and I’m thinking ‘I hope people don’t think I’m doing something horrible.’ But that’s the first time I remember having some strong idea.”
While Druckmann admitted that it was around this time that he had a "kernel of an idea" for the sequel, he went on explain that because of the collaborative nature of video games the full story become "a shared vision" between him and his fellow developers.
The Last of Us Part II is currently set to be released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on February 21, 2020.
