The Last of Us, which many argue is the greatest cinematic storytelling game of all time, is finally ready to make its television series debut. HBO's adaptation of the popular video game, which debuted on PlayStation 3 all the way back in 2013, premieres tonight: Sunday, January 15. Here are all the details you need to know about the upcoming season of The Last of Us, including when and where to watch it.

The Last of Us is an HBO adaptation helmed by Chernobyl's Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann. Druckmann also wrote The Last of Us and served as creative director for the game.

As this is an HBO production, the only place you'll be able to watch The Last of Us series is on HBO's own native channel or through the HBO Max streaming service. New episodes of The Last of Us will premiere on HBO Max at the same time they debut on HBO. So what time is that?

The premiere episode of The Last of Us will debut on Sunday, January 15th. It will air at 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT. There are nine episodes in total in the first season with new episodes arriving every Sunday at the same aforementioned time. Episodes will likely run for about an hour, although the series premiere will last around 90 minutes. The full schedule for The Last of Us season one is as follows:

  • Sunday, Jan. 15 at 9 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, Jan. 22 at 9 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, Jan. 29 at 9 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, Feb. 12 at 9 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, Feb. 19 at 9 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, Feb. 26 at 9 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, March 5 at 9 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, March 12 at 9 p.m. ET

If you want to watch The Last of Us through HBO Max, you can subscribe to the ad-free service for $15.99 per month or $149.99 for the year. Alternatively, there's a version with ads for $9.99 per month or $99.99 for the year. 

Based on the PlayStation game of the same name, The Last of Us is set 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed by a deadly virus. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

The series stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Joel and Ellie, respectively.  Also joining the cast are Gabriel Luna (True Detectiveas Joel’s younger brother and former soldier, Tommy; Merle Dandridge (The Last of Us video games, The Flight Attendant) as resistance leader Marlene; and Anna Torv (Fringe) as Tess, a smuggler and fellow hardened survivor.
