UNCHARTED 4: A THIEF'S END Upcoming PlayStation 5 and PC Release Reportedly Will Not Include Multiplayer

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is set for the PlayStation 5 and PC in early 2022 but it seems the remastered release will not include the multiplayer portion of the game.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 back in May 2016. Now it's set for the next generation with a remastered release for the PlayStation 5 and PC.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is set to launch in early 2022 and will include both the final mainline instalment in the Uncharted action-adventure series starring Nathan Drake as the protagonist and also the Uncharted: The Lost Legacy starring Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross. The latter originally released for the PlayStation 4 in August 2017.

Although not yet officially disclosed, it appears that the upcoming remaster will not include the online multiplayer portion of the game. Players could compete against others in such modes as 'Deathmatch' and 'Capture the Flag,' but no longer, it seems. This would be in-keeping with Naughty Dog dropping Factions from The Last of Us Part II whereas its predecessor included online multiplayer; The Last of Us Remasted did include multiplayer, though.

You see, recently Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves was rated by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) and, while a game that includes multiplayer would include interactive elements, this new ESRB listing states that the remaster bundle has "no interactive elements." Check it out for yourself here. According to the ESRB's ratings guide, 'interactive elements' essentially means online features that allow players to interact with each other. In contrast, the original listings for both Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy do make note of the inclusion of interactive elements.

The reasoning for dropping the multiplayer side of the game is currently a mystery. We will simply have to wait for the studios involved to make an official statement regarding the topic. We'll keep you updated.
