Last year, PlatinumGames and Square Enix released the sequel to 2010’s NieR. The sequel, NieR: Automata, received a positive reception from fans and critics alike. NieR: Automata even received nominations for "Best Storytelling" and "PlayStation Game of the Year" at the 35th Annual Golden Joystick Awards. In spite of the positive reception, however, there has been little indication that we could see a sequel.

Thankfully, fans who hope to return to the world presented in the NieR franchise may get their wish. While speaking at a panel at PAX East, the game's producer Yōsuke Saitō hinted at the possibility of returning to the franchise.

“I do think that we might be able to open another door in the NieR universe,” Saitō said at the panel, a comment met with cheers from the fans. Of course, Saitō doesn’t indicate when we can expect the game to arrive, but he does state that he wants fans "to look forward" to the prospect of a sequel.
