The Pokémon Trading Card Game is marking its 30th anniversary in style with the official reveal of the release date for its major celebration set.
The Pokémon Company confirmed that the 30th Celebration expansion will launch in Japan on September 16, 2026. A simultaneous worldwide release is expected to follow shortly afterward, continuing the pattern established with recent anniversary products. Most Japanese sets release on Fridays, but 30th Celebration releases on a Wednesday. This could be a callback to Japan's 20th Anniversary set, which released on the exact same date in 2016. A mid-week release presumably makes it more of an "event" for Japanese fans as well.
This anniversary set brings several notable changes compared to standard expansions:
- Six cards per booster pack (instead of the usual five)
- Every card in the pack will be holofoil
- A brand-new rarity introduced exclusively for the anniversary set
- Special spotlight cards featuring Pikachu, Mew, and Mewtwo in the new rarity
The set will also include a subset of reprinted classic cards, similar to the popular Celebrations expansion from 2021. Confirmed reprints already include Pikachu & Zekrom-GX from Team Up, Solgaleo-GX from Sun & Moon Base Set, and Lugia from Aquapolis. These nostalgic pulls are expected to be a major draw for longtime collectors.
Alongside the main 30th Celebration set, The Pokémon Company is releasing a Premium Deck Set: Espeon & Umbreon on the same date. The pre-built decks will focus on the popular Eeveelution pair, with their spotlight cards also featuring the new anniversary rarity.
The Pokémon TCG has already delivered two major sets in 2026 to kick off the celebration. Ascended Heroes launched in January as the largest set in the game’s history, while Perfect Order followed in late March with a more competitive focus. The upcoming 30th Celebration set continues this momentum and looks set to be one of the most collector-friendly releases of the year.
Further support for the anniversary includes new rewards in Pokémon TCG Live, with free packs and decks already distributed to players. The next major expansion after Perfect Order, Chaos Rising, has also been confirmed and will introduce a new Mega Greninja ex card.
With multiple high-profile products planned throughout 2026, the Pokémon TCG’s 30th anniversary is shaping up to be one of the most exciting periods in the game’s long history. Collectors and competitive players alike will have plenty to look forward to when 30th Celebration arrives this September. Lets hope the scalpers stay retired and do not come back for this run.
