Apple TV+'s Mythic Quest has been canceled after four seasons. The workplace comedy about a game studio was among the first original series to launch on Apple TV+, debuting in February 2020 with a second season greenlit before the show even premiered.

Glowing reviews and positive buzz earned it a third and fourth season back in 2021, following the release of two special episodes — "Quarantine" (released during COVID) and "Everlight" — and the entirety of its second season.

Apple doesn't reveal viewership numbers, but it does seem that its popularity has waned a bit. Season 4 was released without much fanfare, perhaps signaling that the end was near.

The Season 4 finale left us with a bit of a shocker, and thankfully, it sounds like all of the show's loose ends will be tied up. There are plans to release an updated finale episode on Apple TV+ next week.

“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, ‘Mythic Quest’ is coming to a close,” said series executive producers Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, and Rob McElhenney. “We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.”

Mythic Quest follows the fictional video game studio that produces the popular MMORPG Mythic Quest, run by the game's creator and creative director, Ian Grim (Rob McElhenney. The series chronicled the energetic and chaotic workings of the studio and its colorful cast of characters. It featured an incredibly talented cast that included Ashly Burch, Jessie Ennis, Imani Hakim, David Hornsby, Charlotte Nicdao, Danny Pudy, and F. Murray Abraham.

Across its four seasons, Mythic Quest sits at a near-perfect 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an impressive 82% on the Popcornmeter.

"While it relies too heavily on the workplace comedy formula, Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet is nonetheless hilarious and stands out for exploring the gaming industry with intelligence, thoughtfulness, and sincerity," reads the show's critics consensus for the first season.

In addition to its four regular seasons, Mythic Quest also featured two special episodes that were released between Seasons 1 and 2. "Quarantine" showed how the studio and its workers dealt with the emotional struggle of working remotely and dealing with isolation during the pandemic, while "Everlight" celebrated the show's "normal" return to the office.

Mythic Quest also spawned a comedy anthology miniseries, Side Quest, created by Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney. The spin-off explored the lives of employees, players, and fans of the game Mythic Quest. All four episodes were released on March 26, 2025, to generally favorable reviews, although it's unclear if there are any plans to continue the anthology series. Judging by the cancelation of Mythic Quest, it's likely that Side Quest is done too.

The cancelation of Mythic Quest comes weeks after it was reported that Apple is losing more than $1 billion a year on its Apple TV+ streaming service.
