RESIDENT EVIL Live-Action Film Adaptation Will Tell An Origin Story; Full Cast Revealed

Constantin Film has revealed that the Resident Evil live-action film reboot will mainly focus on the first two entries in the popular video game series by Capcom; full cast has also been revealed.

Capcom has been paying a lot of attention to their Resident Evil series, with a brand-new Resident Evil video game currently in the works, a Resident Evil TV show produced by Netflix, and even a new Resident Evil live-action film that will not be part of the series directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.

This new Resident Evil film was initially announced in 2018, when it was revealed that it would be directed by English Director Johannes Roberts known for his work on horror films F(2010), 47 Metres Down(2017), and Storage 24, among other horror-related projects.

In April of this year, rumours suggested that this new Resident Evil live-action film had found their Jill Valentine in Killjoys and Ant-Man & The Wasp actress Hannah John-Kamen, although this wasn't really confirmed until just recently.

Earlier on Tuesday, Constantin Film — the studio behind the production of the Resident Evil film— has revealed that not only is Hannah John-Kamen officially cast as jill Valentine, but that she will also be joined by Maze Runner's Kaya Scodelario(Claire Redfield), Robbie Amell(Chris Redfield), Tom Hopper(Albert Wesker), Avan Jogia(Leon S. Kennedy), and Neal McDonough(William Birkin).

Deadline reports that the upcoming Resident Evil live-action film reboot will be focusing mainly on the events that take place in the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 video games by Capcom, as the movie will actually be an origin story of sorts.

"With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences," revealed Johannes Roberts.

Robert Kulzer, who produced all six of the Resident Evil live-action films, will also be producing the reboot on behalf of Constantin Films, alongside Tea Shop Productions' James Harris and Hartley Gorenstein.

"After a dozen games, six live-action movies and hundreds of pages of fan fiction, we felt compelled to return to the year 1998, to explore the secrets hidden in the walls of the Spencer Mansion and Raccoon City," revealed Kulzer.

No further information has been revealed, so we still don't know when this Resident Evil movie will be releasing, so we will keep our eyes peeled until more details about the upcoming project are officially shared.
