SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Movie Expected To Earn Almost $50 Million At The Box Office During Opening Weekend

According to updated tracking by box office experts, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie could make as much as $50-60 million during its opening in theatres. Hit the jump...

Sonic the Hedgehog finally arrives in theaters tomorrow. The upcoming, live-action movie adaptation of the iconic video game series of the same name stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular speedster and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik — while Jeff Fowler directs.

Back in January, analysts made it known that they were expecting the Sonic the Hedgehog movie to make between $20 million and $30 million during its opening weekend — check out that report here. Well, now they're much more confident in the upcoming video game movie.

More recent reports (by Box Office Pro) suggest that the movie could make upwards of $40 million during its opening weekend — specifically $40-48 million. However, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie could go on to make as much as $50 million or even $60 million over the course of the following days.

That's certainly impressive and incredible. Especially when compared to reports from last year in which analysts stated their belief that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie would be a flop at the box office — find that here. It seems that Paramount Pictures and the movie's director deciding to take on-board criticism of the titular character's initial design really, really (and literally) paid off.

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theatres on February 14th, 2020.
