As phones got smarter, the games that could be found on them began to adapt and grow until smartphones could even double as mini-game consoles! With phones being able to port simple games like Crazy Taxi and Crash Bandicoot onto them, it forced game developers like Kabam to figure out how to innovate and make sure players got just as rewarding of a game experience on the phone as they would on a console.
MARVEL Contest of Champions is a prime example of that by being Kabam's attempt at bringing fighting games set in the Marvel universe and only available through mobile phones! Not only has the game been a success, but its sprawling lore and rich storytelling have birthed a brand new RPG title coming next month, MARVEL Realm of Champions.
MROC is a first for developers and offers a whole new school of thought for players; rather than fighting one another as they would on MCOC, gamers will be relying on one another to accomplish a task and grow stronger. A recent interview was conducted with Kabam Creative Director Gabriel Frizerra, who gave us some insight into the game, specifically how the evil Hulk persona, The Maestro, plays into the overall plot.
In the interview, Frizerra explained that "The Maestro was the bad guy in Contest. He was the guy who created our version of the Contest of Champions. We created an amped version of The Maestro traveling all over the multiverse and challenging people to prove that he is the strongest. In act four of our stories, The Maestro gets defeated by Thanos, and he disappears. And now you see him. That's where he was all this time. He was creating this world and being the emperor of this world. We like to add a little bit of a mystery in the beginning, like who killed The Maestro?"
While Maestro doesn't seem to appear much in the game itself, right now, his absence will set the game itself into motion. Will you be playing the game when it releases? We would love to hear your thoughts on Kabam's latest outing in the comments below!
MARVEL Realm of Champions is a bold new imagining of the Marvel Universe that transports players to Battleworld, a forbidden planet forged from many realities, where its uneasy peace is disrupted by the death of Maestro, the God-King. After selecting and fully customizing their Champion with the best gear for the situation, players can team up with other players for epic multiplayer skirmishes in unique Marvel-inspired battle areas and brawl in real-time 3v3 team battles for glory, triumph, and honor.
MARVEL Realm of Champions will be available on December 16th. Pre-registration can be accessed through Google Play or on the official website, and don't forget to check out the interview with Frizerra right here!
