A hit online browser game, Touken Ranbu Online, takes some interesting liberties with multiple historical weapons. Personifying the ancient swords of history, they end up becoming attractive young men. The collectible card browsing game was developed by Nitroplus and DMM Games and was released in 2015.
Since the release of the game, the subject matter has been the focus of multiple spin-offs. Most of the expansions of the franchise include an anime series and film, stage plays, musicals, manga, and a live-action movie!
Most recently, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the game, singer-songwriter Yumi Matsutoya (who is best known for her work on Kiki's Delivery Service and The Wind Rises) is working on the brand new song for the game! Acting as a new theme for the game titled "You and Me," the song was unveiled in a brand new video.
After five years, it looks like the game will continue to improve and bring in more and more fans. Make sure to check out the new song, and we would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
The Touken Ranbu Online "sword personification training game" takes famous swords from Japanese history and interprets them as bishōnen.
Touken Ranbu Online is available now on iOS and Google Play Store!
