When Marvel and developer Netmarble announced a new mystery game prior to PAX East, it was no surprise that it would be coming to mobile devices. After all, Netmarble, developer of the hit action RPG
MARVEL Future Fight, specializes in mobile gaming. What did come as a surprise, though, was just how massive this game, officially revealed as
MARVEL Future Revolution, will be.
MARVEL Future Revolution is a massive open world RPG -- Marvel's first to be released on mobile devices -- developed with AAA quality graphics and a
"unique freedom of play." Written by Marvel Comics writer Marc Sumerak, the introduces a new world converging across dimensions. Primary Earth is now home to the newly formed 'Omega Flight,' a Super Hero team that assembles players to battle an onslaught of Super Villains and defend the universe.
Playable characters revealed thus far include Captain America, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and Doctor Doom. However, this convergence has opened up other dimensions and their respective variants of these heroes. In other words, players will assume the roles of various versions of popular Marvel heroes, including Spider-Punk and "New Stark City" variants. A trailer for
MARVEL Future Revolution was revealed, showcasing the many possibilities for playable heroes, some of which have been uniquely designed by the developers specifically for this game.
Featuring an all-new original storyline and starring fan-favorite MARVEL Super Heroes and Super Villains, MARVEL Future Revolution is Marvel’s first open-world game on mobile.
“For fans that have dreamed of exploring the Marvel Universe in a sprawling, open-world setting, MARVEL Future Revolution gives players the chance to not only journey through these strange new locations, but also customize their favorite Heroes into never-before-seen costume combos,” said Bill Rosemann, VP and Head of Creative at Marvel Games.
“We’re excited to be working with Netmarble once again after nearly five years of continued success with MARVEL Future Fight, and look forward to MARVEL Future Revolution providing countless hours of fun for players to battle alongside their friends and save our universe.”
Marvel Future Revolution will be released on iOS and Android devices, likely as a free-to-play game supported by microtransactions (cosmetics and possibly additional heroes). No release date has been announced yet.
