While director Alex Garland declined to share anything about his upcoming Elden Ring movie, he is dishing out some details about his current playthrough.
According to Garland, who is on his 7th playthrough, he found Malenia, Blade of Miquella to be the toughest boss.
The Ex Machina director told IGN, “It's Malenia who's the tough one”, Garland said when asked about fighting Starscourge Radahn. “I'm now on my seventh playthrough of that game. I've leveled up, I've got lots of juice, and a cool sword, and stuff like that, and I just throw myself at them again, and again, and again, and again.”
On Radahn, Garland went on to say, "Radahn's really easy. I thought Radahn was quite easy, because as long as you sort of activated the people who can assist you in that fight, they get on with fighting him, and they take off whatever it is, half his energy, and you finish him off. It's all about activating those little summon signs dotted around.”

In addition to Garland, Kit Connor, who most recently collaborated with Garland on Warfare, is set to star.
Garland is both writing and directing the video game movie.
Developed by FromSoftware under the direction of Hidetaka Miyazaki, and enriched with lore contributions from A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin, the game weaves a haunting, mythic narrative set in the Lands Between. This once-prosperous realm was blessed by the Elden Ring and the Erdtree, both instruments of the Greater Will’s divine order.
But after a mysterious event known as The Shattering, the Ring was broken, plunging the world into chaos. Demigods, children of Queen Marika, clash over the scattered Great Runes, while exiled Tarnished are called back to restore order and claim the mantle of Elden Lord.
What truly elevates Elden Ring beyond its "Souls-like" predecessors is its breathtaking open-world structure. Unlike the more linear pathways of earlier FromSoftware titles, the Lands Between offers boundless exploration from the outset. Players can wander in any direction, discover secrets at their own pace, and forge their path through a world as mysterious as it is dangerous.
With its intricate mythology, iconic landscapes, and deeply personal journey of power, loss, and destiny, Elden Ring is more than just a game, it’s a sprawling epic begging for adaptation on the big screen.
