Per Deadline Hollywood, Kit Connor will star in director Alex Garland's Elden Ring movie. It's a quick reunion for the pair as Connor previously starred in Garland's Warfare film.
Besides the recent action war pic, Connor is also known from The Wild Robot and Netflix's Heartstopper.
Garland is both writing and directing the video game movie, which notably includes George R. R. Martin among its producers. Martin also developed the foundational lore, history, and mythology for the FromSoftware and Bandai Namco action-adventure RPG.
The announcement of an Elden Ring film isn't exactly surprising, given the game’s monumental impact on both the gaming industry and popular culture. With over 30 million copies sold worldwide, Elden Ring has cemented its status as not just a best-seller, but a defining moment in the evolution of action RPGs.
Its brutal yet rewarding combat, vast open-world design, and deep character customization have captivated players around the globe, making it ripe for cinematic storytelling.
Developed by FromSoftware under the direction of Hidetaka Miyazaki, and enriched with lore contributions from A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin, the game weaves a haunting, mythic narrative set in the Lands Between. This once-prosperous realm was blessed by the Elden Ring and the Erdtree, both instruments of the Greater Will’s divine order.
But after a mysterious event known as The Shattering, the Ring was broken, plunging the world into chaos. Demigods—children of Queen Marika—clash over the scattered Great Runes, while exiled Tarnished are called back to restore order and claim the mantle of Elden Lord.
What truly elevates Elden Ring beyond its "Souls-like" predecessors is its breathtaking open-world structure. Unlike the more linear pathways of earlier FromSoftware titles, the Lands Between offers boundless exploration from the outset. Players can wander in any direction, discover secrets at their own pace, and forge their path through a world as mysterious as it is dangerous.
With its intricate mythology, iconic landscapes, and deeply personal journey of power, loss, and destiny, Elden Ring is more than just a game—it’s a sprawling epic begging for adaptation on the big screen.
Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki previously addressed the possibility of movie or television adaptation back in 2024, stating, "I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example, but I don’t think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium."
"So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play. We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but we have interest, for sure."
Stay tuned for future updates as we await more casting news and confirmation of a release date.
