Though
Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is for all intents and purposes a remake of the 1998 film
Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back, it appears that it will be taking some creative liberties.
Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution will be releasing in July and serve as a CG remake of the classic
Pokemon movie, one that takes place within the franchise's new canon. That canon began in 2017 with
Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You! and continued in 2018 with
Pokemon the Movie: The Power of Us.
Taking place in a new canon and being animated differently, you'd expect some changes to be apparent when compared to the source material. As such, Mewtwo's armour looks almost entirely different. In the original film it served as a way to dampen Mewtwo's godlike abilities and will serve the same purpose in the remake. Only now, it's much more elaborate and bulky.
