As
previously rumored, the first trailer for
Pokemon Detective Pikachu has debuted today. Coming off reports that the live-action/CG film
received positive reception at an early screening, this is the time the general public gets a glimpse of the adaptation. As the first-ever live action movie inspired by the beloved franchise, which has grown to become a global phenomenon, there's a lot riding on this trailer. Thankfully, it doesn't totally disappoint.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds helps bring to life the iconic Pokemon, Pikachu, and he pretty much just acts like himself. He's snarky, he's funy, and he's an interesting choice to say the least.
As for the plot of the film, Warner Bros. has offered us our first official synopsis.
Pokemon Detective Pikachu takes us to Ryme City, where both humans and Pokemon live together in harmony. We're introduced to Tim, a 21-year-old who once dreamed of becoming a Pokemon trainer, but never quite followed it. When his father, ace private eye Harry Goodman goes missin, Tim teams up with Harry's former Pokemon partner, Detective Pikachu. But in a hilarious twist, Tim is the only human who can understand what the Pokemon actually says.
The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
