A live-action movie based on the
Saints Row video game series
was announced back in April. It will be directed by F. Gary Gray who's best known for helming
Straight Outta Compton,
The Fate of the Furious, and
Men in Black: International. The film will be written by Greg Russo — who's also responsible for writing the upcoming
Mortal Kombat and
Resident Evil movie adaptations.
Russo recently participated in an interview with
Comicbook.com in which he briefly discussed the
Saints Row movie. Given that we don't know any information other than the two aformentioned members of the crew, we'll take all we can get.
The writer teased that the film will be
"off the wall," and be similar in tone to
Kingsman: The Secret Service (a comedic thriller which released in 2014 and had a follow-up in 2017). That film was known for it's crazy and over-the-top action so; this all sounds quite similar to the video games that it's based on — which is certainly a good sign.
"I am also adapting Saints Row. Talking about crazy off the wall. That is going to, we are going to outer ... No, not literally outer space. Talk about crazy off the wall, we're going nuts with that one. So that's going to be a blast. I think like all of the like weird meets Escape from New York, you know with the tone of like Kingsman. It's going to be fun."
