Warner Bros. and New Line are developing a brand new, live-action movie based on, the popular fighting game franchise,
Mortal Kombat. Currently, the film is set to release on March 5th, 2021 and be the first directing credit of Simon McQuoid. James Wan (
Saw,
Insidious,
Aquaman) is attached as producer while Greg Russo will pen the script.
We've now got our first official information on the casting of the upcoming film and it's in regards to a major role. According to a recent report by
The Hollywood Reporter, the role of Sub-Zero will be played by Joe Taslim. This actor is known for his work in
The Raid,
Fast & Furious 6, and more.
Taslim being cast in such a major role will no doubt get fans of the franchise excited for the film, given that it almost certainly means that we're in for some awesome fight scenes - which is exactly what a movie based on
Mortal Kombat needs. It'll be interesting to find out who else will star in the film, especially as Sub-Zero's age-old rival: Scorpion.
Recently, a
cast listing surfaced online which appeared to reveal that Warner Bros. and New Line are looking to cast legitimate martial arts specialists in the
Mortal Kombat film.
The live-action Mortal Kombat movie is set release on March 5th, 2021.
