Today Microsoft streamed their long-awaited Xbox Games Showcase presentation, revealing a bunch of video games from both first and third-party developers; all of which are expected to release for their current-gen console, as well as the upcoming Xbox Series X.
Among the titles revealed we can find Balan Wonderworld, which is a brand-new intellectual property by Square Enix that will see players taking control of two characters(a boy and a girl) in a magical, and colourful 3D world. These characters can wear up to 80 different costumes that grant them special abilities.
As per the game's description, players will be experiencing twelve tales that will take them to some bizarre locations in Wonderworld. All in all, it sounds like Balan Wonderworld ticks all the boxes of a proper 3D action-adventure platformer.
What's perhaps the most interesting fact about Balan Wonderworld is that it is a game created by Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima — who most players will recognise as the same duo that created Sega's very own Sonic the Hedgehog; something that becomes apparent once you see the character designs in this new intellectual property.
With the announcement, Square Enix released a gameplay trailer that gives us a better idea of what to expect from Balan Wonderworld, while also revealing that the game is currently in development for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC(Steam), and is expected to launch at some point in spring of 2021.
