Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time was officially announced by Activision and developer Toys For Bob in June of this year, revealing that this new entry in the long-running series will be the return to form fans had been clamouring for all of these years.

Even more exciting is the fact that the developers have confirmed that this is a direct sequel to Crash Bandicoot: Warped, in both gameplay and story itself — so players who grew up playing the original games developed by Naughty Dog will feel right at home playing Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time.

One of the things that Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is doing, that is a rather new concept for the series, is taking players back to the past; not in the way that you're probably thinking though. The developers revealed that they have added something called Flashback Tapes to the new game.

Flashback Tapes, as described by the developers, are tough as nails stages that take place before the events of the very first title in the Crash Bandicoot series, and that will be revealing unknown details about Crash and his sister Coco.

In a recent video, Toys For Bob Producer Lou Studdert reveals what makes these new Flashback Tapes levels so interesting, how these are the developer's homage to the original trilogy's Death Routes, and also explaining what they have done to keep things fresh in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, while giving the game a unique Toys For Bob spin.

Check it out:

Picking up where the original trilogy left off, Neo Cortex and DR. Nefarious Tropy have escaped their interdimensional prison and in doing so have fractured the boundaries of time and space. It's up to Crash and Coco to save the day.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will release for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Friday the 2nd of October.
