Earlier this week, the LEGO Marvel Collection released, a culmination package that compiles the three previously released games - LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 and LEGO Marvel’s Avengers - into one package. It also bundles all previously released DLC as well, including Black Panther and Infinity War-themed content.

The LEGO Marvel games have been with us for nearly six years, beginning with LEGO Marvel Super Heroes in 2013. They've done a great job keeping up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and expanding upon the Marvel lore with additional stories and characters from the vast library of characters.

But with Avengers: Endgame hitting theaters next month and wrapping up Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the LEGO Marvel Collection seemingly wrapping up TT Games' own phase with Marvel, what's next for the franchise and studio?

We recently had the opportunity to ask TT Games Senior Producer Matt Ellison those exact questions, and here's what he was able to tell us.

GameFragger (GF): First off, congratulations on the launch of LEGO Marvel Collection. Like the release of Avengers: Endgame, this seems like a pinnacle moment for TT Games. How would you describe these past years working within the Marvel franchise?

Matt Ellison (ME):
Thank you! It’s been incredible working with Marvel on these games. It’s a privilege to work within such a fantastic Universe, with so many characters that are loved all around the world and it’s great that even more people will be able to play these 3 games now.

GF: What has been your favorite thing about working with the Marvel franchise?

ME:
For me, it’s that we’ve been able to bring so many different characters into this series of games. With every character reveal that we did, there were always people excited about seeing who was joining the roster and anticipating who might be next. I have learned so much about some of the more obscure characters within the Marvel Universe since working on the games. Knowing that others, and particularly our younger audience, might also be learning more about the characters through our games is something I’ve always found very cool.

GF: Are there any heroes in the vast library of Marvel characters that you really want to bring into the game but haven’t been able to for one reason or another?

ME: Over the course of the 3 games I think we’ve got pretty much everyone we wanted to get in the games. I remember that getting Howard the Duck in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes was a big deal for the team and we were delighted that it could happen. For me personally, I really enjoyed having different versions of characters in LEGO Marvel 2 that people might not have been familiar with… A cowboy version of Captain America being my favorite example!

GF: Looking ahead, as Marvel shifts into Phase 4 of its MCU, what sort of plans does TT Games have in terms of Marvel-related content?

ME: In terms of Marvel, this LEGO Marvel Collection has very much been our focus. We are very excited to see what happens with Phase 4 as well, and if people are asking for more LEGO Marvel games then we’ll be listening!

GF: With LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, you released the Infinity War DLC pack. Are there any plans to do the same with Avengers: Endgame?

ME: We really enjoyed being able to do the Infinity War DLC, and working out how to give Thanos as many abilities as we did was fun! We don’t have any plans for Avengers: Endgame content at the moment.

GF: What’s next for the LEGO Marvel franchise? Has Marvel given you any clue for where they plan on taking the MCU as preparation for any possible future game tie-ins?

ME: I’d love to know more but I’m afraid they haven’t let anything slip to me.

GF: Lastly, TT Games has a rich history of working with big-named franchises, from Marvel to Star Wars to DC and more. But what is one franchise that you would love to create a LEGO game for?

ME: We have been lucky that we’ve generally done many of the big franchises I’d have liked to have seen already! I did enjoy the Mission Impossible content in LEGO Dimensions, and I’d love to see that expanded!

LEGO Marvel Collections brings three LEGO Marvel adventures (LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, LEGO Marvel Avengers, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2) together in one exciting collection!
