Skydance Games has delayed its upcoming action adventure game Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Originally slated for a 2025 release, the game was pushed back to "early 2026" back in May. Now it has been delayed for a second time.
Unfortunately, Skydance Games did not provide an updated date, only noting that they've shifted the release window "beyond early 2026." This could mean late 2026 or possibly even 2027.
In a statement shared on social media, the developer explained that the delay will allow them to "fully realize" the vision for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.
"At Skydance Games, our goal is to deliver unforgettable, premium games that honor the characters and worlds we're fortunate to work with. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is an ambitious project, and we are committed to ensuring it meets the level of quality that our team, players, and fans expect," the statement reads.
"To fully realize our vision for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, we've made the decision to shift our release window beyond early 2026," the update continues. "We're grateful for the passion and support from the community and players around the world. The team is working hard to create something truly special, and we look forward to sharing more with you as development progresses."
First unveiled at D23 Expo in 2022, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was officially revealed by Skydance and Marvel during GDC 2024. The narrative-driven action-adventure takes inspiration from the 2010 Marvel Comics limited series Captain America / Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers. Set in German-occupied France during World War II, the story follows Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Azzuri (the Black Panther of that era) as they join forces to stop the rise of Hydra.
The campaign supports up to four players in online co-op, allowing you to play as Steve Rogers (Captain America), Azzuri (Black Panther), Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, the leader of Wakanda’s emerging spy network.
In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy. Fighting alongside Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris, they must join forces to stop a sinister plot that threatens to turn the havoc of WWII into the ultimate rise of Hydra.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra wasn’t the only high-profile title hit with a delay this week. Rockstar also confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been pushed back from March to November 19, 2026. Given that GTA 6 is poised to be the biggest release of the year, it would be smart for Skydance Games to avoid launching Marvel 1943 around the same time, making early 2027 a more likely target window.
