Square Enix and PlayStation have got some phenomenal news for players who have been anticipating the release of Crystal Dynamics' long-awaited MARVEL's Avengers, as the developers confirm that the game will also be releasing for the PlayStation 5.
The good news don't end there, as Chief Technology Officer at Crystal Dynamics Gary Snethen has that the PlayStation 5 has greatly lifted the bar for other consoles in terms of performance and graphics, and MARVEL's Avengers will benefit from the graphical enhancement Sony's console will provide.
"PS5 greatly lifts the performance and graphics bar for consoles. The new GPU allows us to increase our texture resolution, push a higher level of detail farther from the player, enhance our ambient occlusion, improve our anisotropic filtering and add a variety of new graphics features such as stochastic screen-space reflections with contact-aware sharpening," revealed Snethen in a post on the official PlayStation Blog.
According to Snethen, MARVEL's Avengers on the PlayStation 5 is targetting for a stable 60 frames per second at a dynamic 4K resolution — giving players the ultimate Avengers experience.
What's likely the best news, however, is the fact that players who purchase MARVEL's Avengers for the PlayStation 4 — either digitally or physically — will be able to get the PlayStation 5 of the game completely free of charge; if they eventually purchase a PlayStation 5, obviously.
MARVEL's Avengers will also support cross-platform gameplay between the PlayStation 4 and the upcoming PlayStation 5, so players will be able to keep facing Avengers-level threats with their friends — regardless if their friends haven't upgraded to a PlayStation 5 just yet.
With the announcement, Square Enix, PlayStation, and Crystal Dynamics also took the opportunity to share some new in-game screenshots that give us a look at how MARVEL's Avengers will look running on the PlayStation 5.
Check it out:
Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
MARVEL's Avengers will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on the 4th of September.
