Ai its core, Remedy Entertainment’s
Control is a modernized metroidvania, but when it comes to its setting, it's actually more similar to the studio's own
Quantum Break than the
Metroid game series.
In
Control, you play Jesse Faden, the newly appointed Director of the Federal Bureau of Control – a clandestine government agency tasked with studying and containing supernatural phenomena – who has to find a way to investigate her former boss' death whilst trying to stop a deadly alien invasion.
Remedy has released the sixth chapter of their
Control-focused devolvement diary series, with Thomas Hudson (Senior Game Designer), Sergey Mohov (Game Designer), Mikael Kasurinen (Game Director) and Paul Ehreth (Lead Designer) discussing
Control's dynamic gameplay and reactive environments.
While the controversial
Quantum Break offered players a similar premise, Remedy is reportedly doing their very best to focus more on the actual gameplay and giving the player chances to use their creativity rather than asking them to watch extended live-action cutscenes with high-profile actors.
Without further ado, be sure to learn more about
Control's varied gameplay mechanics down below:
After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, you become the new Director struggling to regain Control. This supernatural third-person action-adventure game will challenge you to master a combination of supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts and reactive environments, while fighting through a deep and unpredictable world.
Control is coming to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on August 27, 2019.
