Jagex has released a major new free update for RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Titled Dowdun Reach, the expansion introduces a brand-new region filled with fresh gameplay opportunities, dangerous enemies, and powerful new crafting materials as the survival crafting game continues to grow in Steam Early Access. Check out the latest trailer showing off what you can expect before you hop in:

At the heart of Dowdun Reach lies a foreboding, cursed fortress controlled by the Black Knight Titan and his malevolent forces. Players can now explore its maze-like structures, battle new threats, and uncover hidden rewards while pushing their characters further than ever before.

Key Features in Dowdun Reach

  • Skill Cap Increase: All skill caps have been raised to the classic level of 99, giving dedicated players more room to grind XP and maximize their builds as they tackle the new content.
  • Mithril Tier Gear: A brand-new material tier arrives with rich Mithril veins scattered throughout the fortress. Players can craft up to eight different Mithril weapons, including a powerful Greataxe and Greatsword, along with upgraded armor pieces.
  • New Armor Sets: Hides from the lesser blue dragons roaming the region can be crafted into fresh dragonhide armor sets. Magic users will also be pleased to finally equip the iconic mystic robes in Dragonwilds.
  • Dedicated Servers: In partnership with Shockbyte, dedicated servers are now available. These support up to six players per session (increased from four), making group exploration and base-building significantly more enjoyable.

The update continues the momentum established by previous content drops. The first major expansion, Fellhollow, launched in December 2025, followed by smaller patches like February’s Beyond the Grave, which added new quests and activities.

April 2026 marks the one-year anniversary of RuneScape: Dragonwilds entering Steam Early Access. To celebrate, Jagex has teased that the next major update will introduce the long-awaited Fishing skill, along with new quests, skill spells, decorations, and plenty of fish to catch and cook.

Looking further ahead, Jagex has outlined an ambitious 2026 roadmap:

  • Umbral Sands — Late Q2
  • Scorned Wilderness — Late Q3
  • Additional monthly content updates throughout the year

These expansions continue Jagex’s commitment to building Dragonwilds as a deep, evolving survival crafting experience set within the expanded RuneScape universe on the previously undiscovered continent of Ashenfall.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds lets solo players or small teams of up to six explore, craft, build, and survive in a living, breathing open world. It builds upon the legacy of the long-running MMORPG RuneScape, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026.

Jagex, headquartered in Cambridge, UK, continues to evolve the RuneScape franchise into a broader ecosystem of forever games. This includes reducing certain monetization mechanics and focusing on player-led innovation and fair play. With over 300 million player accounts across its history, the RuneScape brand remains one of the most enduring in online gaming.

The launch of Dowdun Reach gives both new and veteran players plenty of reasons to jump back in. Whether you’re mining Mithril, crafting new weapons, clearing the cursed fortress, or preparing for the upcoming Fishing skill, there’s fresh content waiting across Ashenfall.

Dowdun Reach is available now on Steam for all RuneScape: Dragonwilds players at no additional cost. Will you be hopping in with your friends?
