In August of last year, Sega and developer Ryū ga Gotoku confirmed that Yakuza: Like a Dragon — the seventh entry in the critically acclaimed series — would be making its way to the West, and was expected to release in Japan for the PlayStation 4 in January of 2020.
While Yakuza: Like a Dragon has been out since January in Japan, not much has been revealed about the official release date here in the West, although the developers have actually confirmed that the game is no longer a PlayStation 4 exclusive title, as it is now releasing on pretty much every platform.
As a matter of fact, and just a couple of months ago, Sega announced tha Yakuza: Like a Dragon would also be launching for the Xbox Series X, although no information about a PlayStation 5 version of the game was revealed. Considering the series' long history with PlayStation, however, it was a given that the game would, indeed, launch on Sony's next-gen console.
Today, and thanks to the people over at IGN, we have an official trailer for Yakuza: Like a Dragon — which introduces players to new series protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, and his gang. For those not aware, Yakuza: Like a Dragon may be the 7th entry in the series, but Kazuma Kiryu is no longer the protagonist.
In fact, not only is Yakuza: Like a Dragon introducing a new protagonist, but it is also introducing a turn-based RPG combat system; a system that Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi has revealed will be changed if fans don't like it.
The information revealed by IGN also reveals that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be releasing for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC(Steam, Windows 10) in November of this year. The Xbox Series X version will release as a launch title, and the PlayStation 5 will be releasing "at a later date," IGN reveals.
