During the Xbox Partner Preview this week, Konami revealed a new action RPG based on Edens Zero, a popular manga from Hiro Mashima. The trailer specifically mentions a 2025 launch for Xbox Series X|S and PC; however, the video description mentions a more general "consoles and PC," which suggests it could also be coming to PlayStation 5 and possibly even last-gen gaming consoles.

"Relive the story of the manga, and explore an open-world planet as you adventure across the Sakura Cosmos," the game's description teases. "Put yourself in the action, and experience the thrills and emotion of the story along with your favorite characters."

For those unfamiliar with the manga by Hiro Mashima, Edens Zero is a science fantasy set in a fictional spacefaring universe. The story follows Shiki Granbell, a boy with the power to control gravity who embarks on a voyage aboard the titular starship in search of a cosmic entity named Mother

The manga's official description from Kodansha USA reads:

It’s here! The creator of Fairy Tail, manga superstar Hiro Mashima, is back with a high-flying space adventure! All the steadfast friendship, crazy fighting, and blue cats you’ve come to expect…in space!

A young boy gazes up at the sky and sees a streaming bolt of light. The friendly, armor-clad being at his side tells him gently, “That’s a dragon.” The fact that he’s joking isn’t important. What’s important is the look of wonder on the boy’s face…and the galaxy-spanning adventure that’s about to take place! Join Hiro Mashima (Fairy Tail, Rave Master) once more as he takes to the stars for another thrilling saga!

The trailer, which is filled with action, hypes an "exciting space adventure" while teasing the ability to "meet new heroes." — suggesting the game could expand on the content of the manga.

Edens Zero was first published in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine in June 2018. The manga officially came to an end in June of this year. There's also an anime television series adaptation produced by J.C. Staff, which aired its second season in 2023. The anime synopsis, which is available to stream on Crunchyroll, adds some more details as well:

Cosmic Era year X492…

A time when countless people venture into space to travel between stars. Rebecca is a "B-cuber" online video streamer who comes across Shiki, a young boy that can control gravity, on the robot-inhabited planet Granbell.

Shiki follows the teachings of his foster guardian, the robot "Demon King" Ziggy, and treasures his friends over everything.. Rebecca strikes up a friendship with Shiki, and takes him on an adventure through space, outside of the only planet he has ever known.

Shiki's first time in space---new sights, new people, new everything!

This is the beginning of a great and exciting adventure in space, with starry-eyed Shiki and his friends.

Edens Zero will launch in 2025 for consoles and PC.
