At San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, developer NetEase shared a new cinematic trailer that delves into the story of Marvel Rivals. In the upcoming team-based shooter, players assemble an ever-evolving all-star squad of Super Heroes and Super Villains and battle across dynamic and destructible maps from across the Marvel Multiverse.
Today's trailer, titled "No One Rivals Doom," provides a bit of story context for the gameplay. NetEase had actually already provided a rather detailed synopsis of the game, but it's even cooler seeing it come to life in the cinematic below — especially with the impressive animation and action sequences.
The merciless clash between tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises unknown.
Now, Super Heroes and Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups each seek to best both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!
In addition to the new story trailer, NetEase also revealed some of the actors who will voice our beloved superheroes and villains. The star-studded voice cast includes Cassandra Lee Morris (Persona 5’s Morgana) as Galacta, Troy Baker as Loki, Nolan North as Rocket Racoon, Yuri Lowenthal as Spider-Man, and Mara Junot as Storm.
That's quite a bit of star power in this cast. Troy Baker and Nolan North are two of the biggest voice actors in the gaming industry. Baker is perhaps best known for providing the voice for Joel in Naughty Dog's The Last of Us. He's also voiced Booker Dewitt in BioShock Infinite and is starring as Indiana Jones in Bethesda's upcoming adventure Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Nolan North is another major video game voice actor. He's best known for playing Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, but he has also voiced Desmond Miles in the Assassin's Creed, Ghost in the Destiny series, and even Tony Stark in Marvel's Avengers.
Marvel fans will also recognize the name Yuri Lowenthal. He's become one of the more notable voice actors associated with Spider-Man as he voiced Peter Parker in Insomniac Games' critically acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man series.
Unfortunately, NetEase Games has still not announced a release date for Marvel Rivals, which is coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well as PC. The developer recently kicked off a Closed Beta Test for the game, which suggests it could launch later this year.
