Focus Entertainment and Asobo Studio have released the official launch trailer for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The game is scheduled to launch on August 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass with Xbox Play Anywhere support.
The trailer is set to a reinterpretation of Depeche Mode’s "Enjoy the Silence" and focuses on the themes of loss, betrayal, and destiny that define protagonist Sophia’s journey. It serves as the final major look at the game before release.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy expands the world first introduced in Asobo Studio’s A Plague Tale series by shifting the perspective to Sophia and exploring a parallel narrative set during the Minoan era. The story delves into long-buried secrets tied to an ancient island and offers new insight into the origins of the Macula, the mysterious force that has driven much of the franchise’s conflict.
Gameplay combines dynamic melee combat, exploration, environmental puzzles, and narrative-driven sequences. Players move through coastal landscapes and underground labyrinths while uncovering details about Sophia’s past and the larger forces at work in the Plague Tale universe. Each discovery pushes her closer to the truth and deeper into the darkness surrounding her.
David Dedeine, co-founder and creative director at Asobo Studio, described the project as a meaningful one for the team. "This project has also been a special journey for our team, giving us the opportunity to explore a new perspective on the universe we created," he said. "From the writing and gameplay to the music and environments, Sophia’s journey resonates with our own: it hasn’t been without its challenges, but we put our whole hearts into it."
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches on August 27 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Pre-orders remain open on all platforms. A Collector Box edition is available for pre-order in Europe and includes exclusive collectibles inspired by the game. Deliveries for that edition are expected to begin at the end of October.
A playable demo is available on the Gamescom show floor at both the Focus Entertainment and Xbox booths through the end of the event.
With the launch trailer now public and the release only days away, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy represents Asobo’s latest expansion of a universe that began with the story of Amicia and Hugo. Sophia’s chapter shifts the focus to a different time and perspective while remaining connected to the larger mythology of the Macula and the forces that have shaped the series. Will you be playing it?
