During Summer Game Fest 2025, Tribute Games officially announced Scott Pilgrim EX, a brand-new multiplayer action brawler inspired by the cult-classic universe created by Bryan Lee O’Malley. In collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences and O'Malley himself, this all-new entry fuses retro-style pixel art with chaotic four-player co-op gameplay and is scheduled to release on PC and consoles in early 2026. Check out the action packed trailer down below:
Scott Pilgrim EX reimagines the world of Toronto as a warped, demon-filled battleground where players can step into the shoes of Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, and other fan-favorite characters. Each hero enters the fray with a full arsenal of moves right from the start, but the game’s deep customization system allows players to upgrade stats and equip special items to match their preferred playstyle.
The game introduces a completely original story, co-written by Bryan Lee O’Malley and the team at Tribute Games, expanding the lore of the Scott Pilgrim universe with fresh twists, enemies, and time-bending scenarios. Players can expect to face off against familiar foes like vegan henchmen and robots while exploring a dimension-hopping version of Toronto teeming with easter eggs and references.
Accompanying the brawling action is a brand-new score from Anamanaguchi, the same band behind the music in 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. Their return ensures the soundscape will match the energetic and offbeat tone fans have come to love. Iconic pixel artist Paul Robertson also returns, lending his talents to character design and animations, while BenDavid Grabinski director of Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off joins the team as a creative consultant.
"Scott Pilgrim EX is the culmination of years of experience working on brawlers combined with our intimate knowledge of Scott Pilgrim," said Jonathan Lavigne, game director at Tribute Games. "It’s a full-circle moment for us. The original founders of Tribute Games all worked on the first video game incarnation of Scott Pilgrim before launching the studio in 2011. Coming back to this world feels like the most natural thing ever. This game is about friendship, our love of video games, music, and hitting robots in the face with a volleyball. It’s full of lore, references, easter eggs and passion. It’s the Scott Pilgrim game fans have been waiting for."
Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley also stated his excitement with the game. "Working on a game like this is a dream come true, especially with this team of old friends and new collaborators. Scott Pilgrim fans won’t know what hit them in the slightest! EX-pect the un-EX-pected!"
With a fresh storyline, explosive visuals, and input from many of the original creative minds behind the franchise, Scott Pilgrim EX is shaping up to be a bold return to the world of video game brawling and a must-play for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
