Insomniac's
Spider-Man has had fans excited for the game since it was first revealed during Sony's presentation at the 2016 E3. And what's not to be excited about. It is the first time in a long time since a
Spider-Man game was developed by a different studio that wasn't Beenox, or published by a company that wasn't Activision. Some people may even argue that the last good
Spider-Man game was Treyarch's
Spider-Man 2, and that game came out 14 years ago.
This time,
Spider-Man will be developed by Insomiac Games and published by Sony(who also currently hold the movie rights that share with Marvel Studios). Insomniac is a studio that has brought us such amazing games like
Ratchet&Clank and
Sunset Overdrive, to name a few.
Insomniac Games have been delivering the goods for a long time and have worked with characters who even share similar traits with the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Even when approached by Sony and asked what franchise would they like to make a game about they said Spider-Man without giving it a second thought. That alone gives fans of the web-head a lot of hope.
As good as everything seems to be looking for the next
Spider-Man, the game won't be out for a few months. In the meantime, we are getting two books as product of a collaboration between
Titan Books and
Marvel.
The first book they are releasing comes out on the
21st of August and is a prequel to the game titled
Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover, by David Liss.
According to
Polygon's description, the synopsis for the book reads as follows:
"
Leading directly into the beginning of the game, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Hostile Takeoverfeatures some of Spidey’s most famous friends and foes,” says Titan’s announcement, exclusively shared with Polygon, “including the Shocker, Echo, the Blood Spider, J. Jonah Jameson, Mary Jane Watson, and Wilson Fisk – the Kingpin."
The second book comes a few days after the game is officially released.
Spider-Man: The Art of the Game is coming out on the
11th of September.
"
Packed with never-before- seen images of Spider-Man, his costume and equipment, the Marvel version of his hometown New York, and the deadly villains he battles, fans will learn about every facet of the game, from the initial designs, blueprints, and the breathtaking final concepts."
Sony Interactive Entertainment, Insomniac Games, and Marvel team up to create a brand-new, authentic Spider-Man adventure exclusively for PlayStation 4. Take control of an experienced Peter Parker who is more masterful at fighting crime.
Marvel's Spider-Man will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on the 7th of September.
