It’s been over a year since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launched on PlayStation 5, and surprisingly, Insomniac Games has remained mostly silent about a follow-up or even any DLC expanding Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ story.
With the game now making its way to PC, Yuri Lowenthal—who voices Peter Parker—offered a small but encouraging update on his character. At the end of Spider-Man 2, Peter decided to step back from his superhero duties, leaving Miles as New York’s primary protector. While Miles is expected to take on a bigger role moving forward, Lowenthal hinted that Peter won’t be sidelined in the next main entry.
Speaking with The Direct, he confirmed, “There are very few things I can say about this game, but you somehow landed on the one thing I can answer. Yes, Peter is not gone. He will be part of the next game, and he won’t just be sitting on the couch, I promise.”
While most fans assumed Peter Parker would still play a major role—especially with the Green Goblin’s long-awaited debut on the horizon—this marks the first real confirmation that Insomniac has no plans to retire him just yet.
As for a release date, that remains a mystery. A significant Insomniac leak in December 2023 revealed a tentative roadmap that included a Venom spin-off in 2025, Wolverine in 2026, Spider-Man 3 in 2028, and an X-Men game in 2030.
Now that we're approaching March, there's still no word on DLC or the rumored Venom spin-off. However, there’s still plenty of time for Insomniac to surprise fans with a new release before the year ends—possibly with more hints about Spider-Man 3. Hopefully, we’ll get an update in the coming months.
Recent reports suggest that Sony could be planning to launch the PlayStation 6 by the end of 2027, raising speculation that Spider-Man 3 might be positioned as a next-gen launch title. While that remains uncertain, it’s an intriguing possibility.
Story-wise, rumors indicate that the next game could feature three playable characters: Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Cindy Moon—who made her first appearance in Spider-Man 2’s post-credits scene.
As for villains, the Green Goblin seems inevitable, especially with Norman Osborn ordering the G-serum for Harry at the end of the last game. Whether Norman or Harry takes up the mantle remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Doc Ock has already teased a “final chapter,” confirming his return. There’s also growing speculation that Carnage could play a role, with Cletus Kasady still on the loose after his fiery rampage in Spider-Man 2.
With so many moving pieces, Insomniac’s next installment is shaping up to be its most ambitious yet. Now, it’s just a matter of when we’ll get our first real look at what’s next.
