A few days ago, rumours started swirling that Spider-Man 2 has secured a 2023 release date. That information came from a writer working on the game, though it wouldn't be the first time we've seen a release window surface, only for us to later learn it was a mistake or assumption.
In this case, however, the news has been confirmed and we even have some specifics!
PlayStation just dropped a blog post announcing that the sequel to 2018's Spider-Man and 2020's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will arrive in stores sometime in the Fall of 2023.
A PlayStation 5 exclusive, little to nothing has been revealed up until this point, though it has previously been confirmed that Venom and Kraven the Hunter will be among the villains Peter Parker and Miles Morales face. We're guessing a first look will drop sometime in the coming months, and that will hopefully shed a little more light on what to expect from the follow-up.
"What a year it’s been for PlayStation Studios," says Bryan Intihar, Creative Director. "Here at Insomniac Games we’ve been in absolute awe of the work of our peers. Congrats to everyone on a successful 2022...and here’s to next year being just as exciting as we continue to get Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ready for release next fall."
Candyman legend Tony Todd is set to voice Venom in Spider-Man 2, while Scott Porter recently revealed - in a since-deleted Tweet - he's been replaced as Harry Osborn due to him not matching the character's physical appearance (suggesting Peter's old friend will have a much larger role in the sequel).
When we spoke to Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal last year, he told us: "I'm over the moon. I’m over the moon to be back playing Spider-Man again and it’s a dream come true that this is my job. Tony, I’ve worked with once before, and he is an absolute dream, a gentleman, and an all-around cool guy. I cannot wait to get into trouble with him!"
