Warner Bros. and developer Rocksteady have officially announced that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been delayed. Previously slated to release on May 26, 2023, the game has now been pushed back to next year. Barring any more setbacks or delays, it will now launch on February 2, 2024.

"We have made the tough but necessary decision to take the time needed to work on getting the game to be the best quality experience for players," the developer wrote on social media. "Thank you to our amazing community for the continued support, patience, and understanding. There is much more to share in the months ahead and we look forward to seeing you in Metropolis next year."

News of the delay is disappointing, but certainly not expected. There were reports that the game would be delayed back in March following its disappointing showing at the PlayStation Showcase.

Rocksteady didn't go into details about what will be worked on between now and the game's new release. During the PlayStation State of Play, it was revealed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League would be a live-service game with a battle pass, and that it would require an always-online internet connection, even when playing solo. Both of these reveals were met with criticism and skepticism from gamers.

It's unclear if the delay means Rocksteady will be addressing any of these unpopular elements; however, in the original report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, he noted that the delay is likely to focus on polishing the game rather than overhauling the "core gameplay." This would suggest that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice will remain a live-service game at its core.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice is a third-person action-adventure shooter in which you take on the roles of Suicide Squad members Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark. The story follows this ragtag team of misfits on an impossible mission to save Earth and kill the world's greatest DC Super Heroes.

This is the latest major delay for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was previously slated to release in 2022 before being pushed to Spring 2023. When it does arrive, the game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is being developed by Rocksteady Studios, creators of the award-winning Batman: Arkham series. Given how well-polished and well-received those games were, it's odd to see the studio struggling so mightily with Suicide Squad. Here's hoping this is the last delay and that the extra time results in a game that meets the high expectations of DC fans.
