WATCH DOGS: LEGION Release Date Announced Alongside Gameplay Trailer Showcasing "Play As Anyone" Mechanic

During Ubisoft Forward, Watch Dogs: Legion received a release date and a new trailer highlighting the innovative mechanic that allows you to "Play As Anyone." Check out the multiple ways to tackle a mission.

Ubisoft has announced that Watch Dogs: Legion, the next installment in the hacker-centric action-adventure franchise, will launch on October 29, 2020. It will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Google Stadia, and PC via Epic Games and Uplay. Ubisoft also announced Watch Dogs: Legion will be released for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 "upon the launch of the consoles," which currently have a holiday 2020 target release.

Watch Dogs: Legion was first introduced during last year's E3. The game is set in London which has been thrown into chaos following coordinated bombings across the city by a mysterious entity known as Zero-Day, which has framed the secret underground resistance DedSec. With multiple opportunists seeking to seize control over the city, it's up to players to rise up and resist. Watch Dogs: Legion introduces a new wrinkle to the series though, the ability to recruit any NPC into the DedSec Resistance.

With a next-gen concept referred to as "Play as Anyone," this innovative gameplay mechanic allows players to recruit any character they come across in the game into DedSec. Each character that is recruited is unique and has their own personality and skillset. This allows players to tackle each mission differently depending on the character they choose. Accompanying today's release date announcement was a new gameplay video that expands upon this "Play as Anyone" concept. As you'll see, switching between the different recruits can totally change the approach to a mission.

Watch Dogs: Legion It is time to take back London, and anyone you see in this iconic city can be recruited to your resistance. Corrupt opportunists have taken over and it’s up to you to build a resistance to give the city back to the people. With an entire population of potential recruits and the city’s technology at your fingertips, you’ll need to hack, infiltrate, and fight your way to liberate London. Welcome to the Resistance.

Players can have up to 40 characters at a time in their DedSec Resistance and London serves as the perfect backdrop for varied characters with unique skills and weapons. From an MMI6 agent to a construction worker to an inconspicuous old lady, each character has their own way of dealing with various situations. This can include stealthier tactics that rely on sneaking around and high-tech gadgets or going full-blast with a giant wrench.

Watch Dogs: Legion will launch first on current-gen consoles but Ubisoft acknowledged that anyone who buys the game on Xbox One or PS4 will be able to upgrade to the next-gen version on Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 at no additional cost. Additionally, Ubisoft explicitly pointed out that the game will support hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing on Xbox Series X and full ray-tracing support on Nvidia RTX-equipped PCs.
