Last month, Nintendo officially announced a collaboration with LEGO revolving around the Super Mario video game series. That's right; LEGO Super Mario is now an official, legitimate thing. In true Nintendo fashion, a traditional LEGO set wouldn't quite cut it. They have to innovate.
Unlike your usual LEGO set, those of the LEGO Super Mario line are quite high-tech. For instance, the LEGO figure of Mario himself features an LCD screen on his chest and in place of his eyes. This means that he can be quite expressive. The screen on Mario's chest will display how many coins he has collected — among other things.
Based on the trailer that was released last month, it seemed that different sets could be combined together in order to make an exceptionally large level. Turns out, that is precisely the case. LEGO and Nintendo have officially unveiled three of the upcoming LEGO Super Mario sets as well as revealed how much they will cost.
First of all, it's worth mentioning that these sets will all release on August 1st, 2020. The line includes the Mario Starter Course (59.99 USD/EUR), the Piranha Plant Power Slide Expansion Set (29.99 USD/EUR), and the Bowser's Castle Boss Battle Expansion Set (99.99 USD/EUR). It's said that pre-order availability will go live soon.
To accompany the sets themselves, an official LEGO Super Mario companion app will be released. This app can be used to keep track of high scores and share level designs and ideas with friends.
