Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' long-awaited Marvel's Avengers title may still be quite a few months away from releasing, but the developers have made the waiting less painful by releasing gameplay trailers, bits of information, and now comics — as Marvel has recently announced.

As announced by Marvel today, Marvel's Avengers will be getting a tie-in comicbook the will serve as a prequel to the events in the game; more specifically, the "A-Day" that we saw in the trailer.

Iron Man will be the first character to get a comicbook prequel, where the Avengers will be fighting against the Lethal Legion — which will be written by Avengers: No Surrender author Jim Zubkavich and will be featuring art by comicbook artist Paco Diaz.

Marvel only revealed that Marvel's Avengers: Iron Man #1 will be releasing in December, but they didn't tell us exactly when. We'll just have to keep waiting for Marvel to give us an official release date.

Considering that the game releases in May it is very possible that — leading up to its release date — we'll also be getting tie-in comicbooks for Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, and the Hulk; with each comicbook releasing on a monthly basis.

Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Marvel's Avengers will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on the 15th of May in 2020.
