Apex Legends is adding a temporary Solo mode next week, Respawn Entertainment announced. The Solo mode will run from August 13 through August 27 during the Iron Crown Collection Event, which will almost certainly add additional content like cosmetics or challenges.

A Solo mode has been a long-requested feature for Apex Legends. Until now, the battle royale game has only supported squads of three. If you queued solo, it would automatically pair you with other players.

Respawn only teased the mode on social media and on Reddit, promising more details when it goes live next week.

On 8/13 we'll be trying out a Solos Mode in Apex for a limited time. We'll talk more about Solos when it's live and you've had a chance to play it. For now we're going to put it out there and see what happens and what kind of feedback we get.

Should Solo mode prove popular enough, there's a chance Respawn could implement it permanently. It could also serve as a precursor to addition game modes, such as a duos mode or even something on a larger scale.

Seeing as how Apex Legends was seemingly designed with squads in mind — it introduced revives as a respawn mechanic and a ping mechanism (two features Fortnite has since implemented) — it'll be interesting to see how the game plays when you're alone with no teammates by your side. It'll also be interesting to see how the individual character abilities play out in a Solo game, or if they'll be disabled for this mode since some characters will most certainly be stronger than others.

We'll find out soon enough. Apex Legends' Iron Crown Collection Event goes live on August 13.
