Artificial Intelligence Is Becoming The Heart Of Video Game Upscaling

Game development is not easy, and it shows. However, with the quick rise of artificial intelligence, things could become much easier for developers in the distant future.

Artificial intelligence is the next big thing, and it has managed to find its way into video game development. We’re not talking about full game development here, but rather the improvement of older games.

Improving old video games to look better than they ever were is one of the most profitable things for developers to do. But what if this task could become much better with the use of artificial intelligence? Let’s talk some more about that.

The technique we’re going to talk about is called AI Upscaling. From what we’ve come to understand, developers will give the AI algorithm a low-resolution image, and from there, the system will improve the image based on the data it has collected over hours of training.

Now, the video game modding community have been taking advantage of this technique with great results in recent times. Yes, upscaling is nothing new, but with artificial intelligence at the heart of it all, the hard task of upscaling a game while improving pixels could become much easier than ever before.

Modders and developers who are interested in venturing down this path should take a look at the r/GameUpscale subreddit.

It should be noted that while AI makes upscaling easier, a lot of work is still required to get things done. Not to mention, if the AI fails at some point during the conversion, then developers will have to go hands-on.

We know that artificial intelligence is the future, but as it stands right now, it’s not yet perfected to the point where game developers can just sit back, drink coffee, and wait for everything to be completed.
