Taking the stage at SXSW today, Hideo Kojima announced that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will release this summer on June 26, 2025. With a launch date now set, pre-order details were revealed along with a lengthy trailer that Kojima directed himself.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is the sequel to 2019's action-adventure developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The original game starred Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges, a courier tasked with delivering supplies to isolated colonies and reconnecting them via a wireless communications network following a cataclysmic event. Players engaged in a series of fetch quests — to the point where many referred to the game as an advanced walking simulator — while also encountering destructive creatures. The game also starred Mads Mikkelson, Troy Baker, and Margaret Qualley.
Norman Reedus once again returns in Death Stranding 2, reprising his role as Sam Porter Bridges. Specific plot details, including a general synopsis, have been kept under wraps thus far, though the trailers released thus far suggest more of the same. Only this time, the environments look way more diverse as Sam travels beyond North America to help expand the Chirai Network.
In the trailer below, we get our best look yet at all of the different environments players will encounter on their journey, and all of the new tools they'll have at their disposal.
Shared alongside the trailer were all the details for the different editions of the game that will be available. Pre-orders for Death Stranding 2 will go live on March 17th at 10:00 a.m. local time, and you'll definitely want to mark your calendar if you plan on purchasing the Collector's Edition.
