Many companies are getting involved in the video game industry in a big way, and Disney is no different. The company has several properties that are ripe for having their own games, and they bring a lot of licensing headaches.
To combat this issue, Disney has hired former Sony PlayStation portfolio boss, John Drake, to head up games licensing. We understand that Drake spent around five years at PlayStation where he leads a team that deals in portfolio and content acquisition endeavors.
Drake announced he would leave the platform holder earlier this month, but no one knew he would be taking a job at Disney. But not too long ago, he was proud to announce his new position as VP of business development and licensing for games at Disney.
"I've been a Disney fan my entire life -- animation, live-action, Pixar -- and now Star Wars, Marvel, Fox and everything else?" he tweeted. "It's an amazing time to bring those worlds to the games and interactive space. And it's a wonderful team - 'It takes people to make the dream a reality'."
Time will tell if things turn out well for Drake in his new job. He seems quite happy about the future, so hopefully, it stays that way.
