Disney has numerous video games in development across its various banners. On Friday, September 9th, these games will be brought together as part of the company's first-ever Disney & Marvel Games Showcase. The newly announced showcase will feature content from Disney & Pixar Games, Marvel Games, Lucasfilm Games, and 20th Century Games.
Disney has already confirmed some of the games that will be shown during the showcase, including Disney Dreamlight Valley, Marvel's Midnight Suns, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. There was also the promise of a sneak peek at the "upcoming Marvel ensemble game from Skydance New Media."
Last year, it was announced that Skydance New Media was partnering with Marvel to develop "a narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe." It's rumored that this could be a unique take on the Fantastic Four.
Beyond these confirmed titles, there are plenty of other Marvel and Star Wars games in development. Insomniac Games is currently working on Marvel's Spider-Man 2, a sequel to 2018's PlayStation blockbuster. The studio also recently announced it's developing another game starring Wolverine.
On the Star Wars front, Zynga is developing a free-to-play multiplayer game called Star Wars: Hunters for the Nintendo Switch and mobile. This was recently delayed and pushed back to 2023, but it's possible we could see more of it.
There's also EA and Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The sequel to the critically acclaimed Fallen Order was first announced back in May with a teaser trailer.
Skydance New Media is also working on a Star Wars game with development led by award-winning writer and director Amy Henning. Again, not much is known about this project, but it's "a cinematic action-adventure featuring an original story in the Star Wars galaxy."
Another highly anticipated game is Star Wars Eclipse, an action-adventure set in the High Republic era. The game will feature multiple characters and a branching narrative, which is what developer Quantic Dream is known for with their games.
There's also the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake for PlayStation. However, this game was recently put on hold indefinitely, so it's unlikely it will make an appearance during the showcase.
The Disney & Marvel Games Showcase will be broadcast on Friday, September 9th at 1:00 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. ET. Fans attending the D23 Expo 2022 will be able to watch the showcase live on the Premiere Stage with a special presentation featuring developer interviews, special guests, and more afterward. If you aren't attending D23 Expo, you can still tune in online. The showcase will be streamed live from the D23, Disney, and Marvel Entertainment social channels.
