Back in May, BBC Studios announced a new virtual-reality experience set within the science-fiction world of
Doctor Who. It's titled
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time, developed by Maze Theory, and published by PlayStack.
It's unclear whether the player is The Doctor themselves but it has been confirmed that Jodie Whittaker's recent take on the character will feature in the game somewhere and somehow. Additionally, iconic villains such as the Daleks and Weeping Angels will be included.
A brand new gameplay trailer that
BBC Studios has released reveals that at one point, apart from the regular puzzle solving, you actually get to play as a Dalek. It also teases a seemingly terrifying section in which you have to keep your eyes on multiple Weeping Angels at once — as you know, if you're a fan of the television series, looking away isn't a good idea.
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time will be available for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, and Vive Cosmos sometime soon — as the end of the trailer suggests. Speaking of which, you can check out the trailer for yourself below:
Armed with the iconic Sonic Screwdriver, players will solve mind-bending puzzles, grapple with classic monsters and encounter new horizons in a quest to find the Doctor and defeat a powerful force that threatens to destroy the fabric of reality. They will face the infamous Daleks and other known faces from the Doctor’s universe plus some brand new never-before-seen monsters as they travel through stunning cinematic environments that truly bring the show to life!
