One of the surprise reveals to come out of Gamescom this week was the announcement of Everspace 2, a sequel to Rockfish Games' space shooting roguelike.

The independent developer released a pretty intense trailer for the upcoming game, while also confirming how it'll differ from its predecessor. According to Rockfish, Everspace 2 will ditch the rogulike concept and instead embrace an open-world approach to space combat with "classic RPG elements and persistent player progression." Additionally, Rockfish promises "many more player ships and significantly enhanced storytelling."

Everspace 2
isn't launching anytime soon with an Early Access planned for Steam in late 2020. The full version will arrive on PC, PS4, and Xbox One at "the end" of 2021. But despite it being so early in development, we at least were treated to some pre-alpha gameplay.

Rockfish will launch a Kickstarter campaign for Everspace 2 next month on September 9 with a funding goal of €450,000. This will allow the independent developer proper funding to create the game and give fans a chance to be involved early on in the development process of it. Being Kickstarted also ensures Rockfish will have full creative control of the game during its production and even expand upon the scope if it hits the stretch goals.
