Motal Kombat XI (according to NetherRealm Studios, it's actually
Mortal Kombat 11, but who doesn't appreciate Roman numerals) was announced at last week's The Game Awards and instantly became one of the biggest (if not the biggest) highlights of the show. We know that the series' iconic characters like Scorpion and Raiden will be featured in
MKXI, but one more hero might be on his way to the game.
According to comic book artist Todd McFarlane (who also co-created beloved
Spider-Man villain
Venom, his
Spawn might be a playable guest fighter in
Mortal Kombat XI. During a recent AMA session on Reddit, McFarlane was asked if one of his most recognizable creations would be appearing on the roster for
Mortal Kombat XI, and McFarlane responded by simply saying, “
I believe he’s on his way…”
Considering that the studio added Jason Vorhees, Predator, Leatherface, and a Xenomorph to
Mortal Kombat X in paid DLC, there's a change that you will indeed have a chance to fight the franchise’s main villain Shao Kahn as Albert Francis "Al" Simmons, also known as the Spawn. Whether or not the anti-hero will actually be in
MKXI or is it just wishful thinking on McFarlane’s part remains to be seen.
Mortal Kombat is back and better than ever in the next evolution of the iconic franchise. The all new Custom Character Variations give you unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own. The new graphics engine showcasing every skull-shattering, eye-popping moment, brings you so close to the fight you can feel it. And featuring a roster of new and returning Klassic Fighters, Mortal Kombat’s best in class cinematic story mode continues the epic saga over 25 years in the making.
Mortal Kombat XI will launch for Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch April 23, 2019.
