Several new movies arrive in theaters this Friday, and Paramount Pictures and Legendary's Street Fighter reboot should handily claim the domestic box office top spot.
Despite initial estimates pointing to a disappointing $20 million debut, the latest updates look a little more optimistic for the video game adaptation, which now looks set to take in $25 million to $35 million from 3,500 North American theaters. The movie could be on track for a $70 million global opening weekend.
Street Fighter has a reported $82 million budget, not factoring in P&A.
The PG-13 movie could benefit from positive word-of-mouth, but it may have to do without critical endorsement. Though full reviews are still under embargo until Thursday afternoon, social media reactions have been mixed (usually not a great sign).
