Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema's upcoming live-action Mortal Kombat movie seems to be shaping out nicely. Although the movie won't be coming out until March of 2021, the studio has been slowly revealing new details about the anticipated adaptation of the popular Mortal Kombat series of fighting games.

This will not be the first time the series gets a live-action adaptation, since the first Mortal Kombat movie was released in 1997 and is, even to this day, regarded as one of the few video game movies to be good — although this movie in particular has reached cult status, so it being good is more subjective than anything.

One of the limitations that the studio had when making the 1997 movie, was that they wanted to cater to younger audiences — which, in all honesty, where the game's target audience in the first place — and that meant that some sacrifices had to be made; namely everything too violent, which is actually one of the Mortal Kombat series' selling points.

Today, Greg Russo — writer for the new Mortal Kombat film — has officially confirmed that the upcoming movie will be getting an R rating; featuring fatalities for the first time ever — although he will not spoil which fatalities we're going to see.

This new Mortal Kombat live-action movie won't be coming out for a while but at least fans can rest assured that, regardless of the overall quality of the movie, they will finally be able to see some of the gory fatalities the Mortal Kombat series is known for.

Mortal Kombat will hit theaters on the 5th of March in 2021.
